Who is Eutychus?

“Eutychus” by Elizabeth Slovan

Eutychus literally means “fortunate” in Greek, and if you do not remember who he was, you can read about him in the Bible:

And a young man named Eutychus, sitting at the window, sank into a deep sleep as Paul talked still longer.  And being overcome by sleep, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead.  (Acts 20:9, English Standard Version)

Eutychus, a.k.a. Les Bollinger, and his wife, Helen, live in Pennsylvania, where he serves as a bi-vocational pastor of Beaver Baptist Church.  When not performing his pastoral duties, Eutychus works as a decision support analyst at Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Eutychus is truly fortunate-blessed, in fact-and he too has been known to get sleepy during sermons.  For that matter, people have been known to fall asleep during his sermons.

  1. You’d a cussed too if you fell out of a third floor window.

Sorry Les, I just couldn’t help myself. :)

  2. Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for the chuckle, and thanks for visiting!

    Les

  3. Eutychus,
” he too has been known to get sleepy during sermons”
His own sermons?? Just thought I would check.
    Take care brother.
    Rodger

  4. It is my understanding that narcolepsy, a sleep disorder characterized by sudden and uncontrollable episodes of deep sleep, may be caused by extreme emotional excitement. I have always thought it best to attribute people falling asleep while I am preaching to this extreme excitement.
